Jim Gillon
Energy Services Manager, Gateshead Council
Jim has been Energy Services Manager at Gateshead Council for 11 years. Gateshead has invested over £60m in energy schemes, with a further £30m in pipeline over next 2 years. As well as setting the borough’s zero carbon energy strategy for 2030, Jim and his team operate over 10MW of heat, power generation / storages assets, servicing over 700 domestic and public customers.
With a background in plant biology / environmental sciences - to post doctoral level – Jim’s career started in publishing as the Environmental Science Editor of the international journal, Nature, before moving into Local Authorities, from 2003, to develop energy, sustainability and carbon management roles, and most recently specialising in the commercial and technical aspects of heat network development, delivery and operation.
